China's goal is domination, not cooperation. It's playing Biden and America for fools.

Explore the topics mentioned in this article

China has a well-deserved reputation for deceit.

That’s what makes a recent statement from China’s Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng so remarkable: It is honest. He said it’s “not realistic” to expect China to make a new pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

There’s every reason to believe him, but the Biden administration is ignoring reality.

President Joe Biden’s Special Envoy for Climate, John Kerry, has embarked on a quixotic diplomatic quest to get China to cooperate with the United States and do something meaningful to combat climate change.

China might say there’s a climate crisis in a non-binding joint statement with the United States, but its real goal is to become the world’s dominant power — a dangerous prospect for the United States and China’s neighbors.

One reason China gets away with this is because it has made the most of its “developing” country status in the United Nation’s Framework Convention on Climate Change. Under this treaty, developing countries have far fewer responsibilities.
China is far from a 'developing' nation

The Framework Convention was signed in 1992, a time when China really was a developing country. Since then, its economy has grown more than 1,000% and its emissions more than 250%. It’s now the world’s second largest economy and largest emitter — twice as large as the United States.

Despite this, in an April 16 video meeting with Mr. Kerry, Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng argued that as the largest developing and developed countries, China and the United States should observe their “common but differentiated responsibilities.” A polite way of saying, “You first.”

The Paris Agreement Mr. Kerry negotiated in 2015 did nothing to get rid of this developed-developing country divide. It perpetuated it instead. China could volunteer to be included among the developed nations, but that would mean giving up its strategic advantage. It won’t do that, so instead we have a commitment from China that allows it to emit with abandon until at least 2030.

This Photo Sums Up America’s Advantage Over China in the Indo-Pacific

The U.S., U.K., Australia, and Japan recently participated in a giant naval exercise.

The Maritime Partnership Exercise 2021 included three aircraft carriers from three different countries.

Russia and China mirrored the exercise one day later off the coast of Japan.

Navies from four of the largest democracies in the world conducted a huge naval exercise in the Indian Ocean earlier this month—one that involved not one, but three aircraft carriers.

Between October 15 and 18, the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia took part in the Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) 2021 in the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean. The exercise was designed to increase interoperability between the four sea services. A day later, Chinese and Russian navies conducted a similar exercise.

The U.S. Navy sent the California-based aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, as well as her escorts, the guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain, destroyer USS Stockdale, and the replenishment oiler USNS Yukon.

Photo credit: U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Russell Lindsey

The Royal Navy's Carrier Strike Group 21—which includes the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth (above)—also participated. Queen Elizabeth is on her maiden voyage, one that saw her and her battle group sail across the Indo-Pacific as far east as Guam. "Big Lizzie's" escorts included the destroyers HMS Defender, USS The Sullivans, frigates HMS Kent and HMS Richmond, and fleet auxiliary RFA Fort Victoria.

Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force sent the ships JS Kaga and JS Murasame. Kaga, originally a "helicopter destroyer," is set to become a full-fledged aircraft carrier (along with her sister ship Izumo), embarking F-35B fighter jets. Rounding out the international task force was the Royal Australian Navy's frigate HMAS Ballarat and refueling tanker HMAS Sirius.

The four-power exercise (and others like it) is meant to push back against China's growing naval power in the Indo-Pacific, demonstrating solidarity and the ability to work together against a powerful adversary. Military alliances across the region mean that the U.S. Navy has access to the bases of allies closer to where the potential action is, and can bolster its own naval forces with local forces. For locals like Japan and Australia, it means the ability to call on the 500-pound gorilla of naval warfare if regional tensions rise or if war became imminent.

Photo credit: Japan Ministry of Defense

One day after the exercise, a Sino-Russian joint task force set out to prove the same capabilities. Ten warships from the Russian Navy and the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) sailed through the Tsugaru Strait into the North Pacific. The Tsugaru Strait separates the Japanese northern island of Hokkaido from the main island of Honshu. Japanese air and naval forces first observed the flotilla, which provided the photos above to the Japanese Ministry of Defense.

The five Chinese ships included one brand-new Renhai-class guided-missile cruiser; Nanchang, the largest surface combatant in the PLAN; the guided-missile destroyer Kunming; and the frigates Binzhou and Liuzhou. Rounding out the Chinese complement was a Type 903 fuel and ammunition replenishment ship.

Photo credit: Japan Ministry of Defense

Russia's contribution consisted of ships from Moscow's Pacific Fleet, including two Udaloy-class frigates, two Steregushchy-class corvettes, and the Marshal Krylov space-tracking ship. The two frigates were constructed before the Cold War and were originally destroyers before an upgrade, after which they were downgraded to frigates.

The Indo-Pacific region is coalescing into two power blocs, as these two parallel exercises make abundantly clear. On one side are the navies of the world's major democracies, including regional democracies. On the other side are the authoritarian countries Russia and China. While this doesn't mean the world is any closer to war, it does show that, when it comes to geopolitics, birds of a feather flock together. Whether or not they'll fight together is something the world is better off not finding out.
Meanwhile, China is perfectly willing to exploit Western climate change concerns for its own ends. Fueled by subsidies, the Chinese solar industry has cornered the global market. They have stifled innovation and caused many cutting-edge companies in America and Europe to call it quits. China now supplies more than two-thirds of all solar modules. Chinese companies also make up seven of the top 10 wind turbine manufacturers.

Unrealistic expectations: Joe Biden is right to be blunt with Russia and China, but wrong on what to do next

Key parts of Chinese solar panels are manufactured in Xinjiang province, where the Muslim Uyghur minority is used as forced labor. Though the Chinese government denies this, it has not permitted independent inspectors access to the manufacturing facilities. A big red flag for an entire green industry.

Where it can’t innovate advanced energy technologies, China isn’t above stealing them. The recent Annual Threat Assessment from the Director of National Intelligence warned that the Chinese are specifically targeting the American defense, energy, and finance sectors. It reports the Chinese have no qualms with using espionage and theft as means to steal American technologies.
Don't surrender US energy advantage

We’re seeing almost weekly news stories detailing how researchers connected to China’s military and intelligence services have penetrated our universities and research institutions. They are exploiting the free exchange of ideas to pilfer intellectual property. We need to wake up to the threat.

China is also making an effort to control the critical materials used in many defense and energy technologies. It’s positioned itself as a critical cog in the mining and processing of copper, lithium, nickel, cobalt, and rare earths. It’s also heavily involved in the sectors that use these materials, like battery, solar panel, and wind turbine production.

None of this is an accident. It’s a conscious geopolitical and commercial strategy.

Beijing's oppression: Why is Chinese leader Xi Jinping so afraid of Hong Kong and Jimmy Lai?

After achieving energy self-reliance, it would be a mistake to surrender America’s energy advantage. We should not turn our energy dominance over to the whims of foreign powers like China that are actively seeking America’s decline. Undermining America’s energy security will not solve climate change.

Mr. Kerry’s pursuit of international cooperation with China on climate change is sadly predictable, but China is not in the cooperation business. It’s in the global domination business.

China pretends it’s a developing country, steals technology, uses forced labor, and manipulates markets to its advantage.

During his speech to Congress, President Biden said he wants to make “sure every nation plays by the same rules in the global economy, including China.” Yet his administration seems determined to fall for China’s grand deception. China is playing the United States for the fool.

RECUERDO  OF LORNA LEGASPI BLANCO

It is with great sadness that I inform you of my mom’s passing today, at around 8:50pm Philippine time. It happened so suddenly and we are all still in a state pf shock, most especially Momoy (Anselmo Felipe) who has been looking after his lola.

We were able to be with my mom during her last hours of life, until she stopped breathing. I cannot describe the pain and sadness … she shed tears as we prayed a final prayer although she was already unconscious.

Sat, Oct 9 at 12:05 AM

Dear Tito Alex,
We were able to get mommy’s ashes yesterday and have her blessed in our parish church. We also had a prayer session in the afternoon and are doing the 9-day novena for the dead. Tomorrow we shall have an online mass for mommy and on Sunday (next week), a priest shall hold a mass here in our house.

Sending you some pictures too.
For my words for mommy:
“Thank you for the 51 years of my life that I got to live with you. I have loving memories of you spending time with family, most especially with your grandchildren whom you loved so much and loved you back. I will terribly miss you but death is a part of life which I should accept and comprehend. It is too painful now but I know in time, this will be replaced by happiness and acceptance, knowing that you were happy and contented. We love you so much!”

Love,
Jig

Dear Anselmo/ Jig,
We are very sorry about your lola lorna. She was the friendliest person at Sierra Madre, the time I was courting your tita Marissa. I will never forget the mischievous smile as she went upstairs looking down at us in the library. I lost my pen pal and beloved sister in law. Was she able to confess her sins as I mentioned before to your mom? About your MTCN, it was fixed and the name was changed corresponding to your ID, but the number remained the same.

All of you should be taking magnesium and fish oil. This is the sickness of the Ocampo family, and why the sisters of grandma Lucy died at an early age of heart failure. Enclosed below was our last exchange of emails. With her passing away, gave me to stop future living in France for months and months. I will probably die there in France, if I follow that passion, because strokes in the brain requires 3 hrs. instant treatment of tPA . Our condolence and prayers to all. Love Tita Marissa and tito Alex.

A side note Possible diagnosis: too much antibiotics day in and day out which causes Arrhythmia and panic attacks, a side effect and can be cured by magnesium and atenolol.

Heart rhythm problems (heart arrhythmias) occur when the electrical impulses that coordinate your heartbeats don't work properly, causing your heart to beat too fast, too slow or irregularly which caused the stroke and complication with  pneumonia led to Lorna's death.

THE LAST EMAILS OF LORNA

Hi Lorna,

We hope you are feeling better, drink your vit C and D3 religiously. That cough could have been serious without your vax. Just follow your doctor. I aim to have my booster shot because the next delta strain is much much more a stronger contaigion. It could be common in the future to take booster shots for different strains of covid 19 vax like the flu shot of today, every year.

I am exited now as Ilo responded to my Hellos, we thought she was somewhere else, as I remarked and greeted her in the music room " Hi Ilo" the Control ADT Security light on my desk responded and flickered. Immediately, I told Marissa to prepare some food for her, the time was 2400 hrs. She like the essence of pies and salad. You might think we are crazy people but it is true. We are happy to know that she is still with us but concerned that her wish to die before her time could be a hindrance for her journey to the light, so pray hard for her to earn her wings.

Last night at the same time, we read her your email and my lamp also responded, flickered. If you want to have the same experience do not be afraid, to say your Hello to Ilo, but prepare some food if you think she is there. She likes also that you have a crucifix around. We believe that her strong emanating energy comes from her strong character. She will be on our side forever and feel blessed because of that. Lorna be careful, our prayers will always be with you. All the best. Love Marissa and Alex.

dear alex and marissa,
glad you have responded. no, you are not crazy people. ever since .that house of yours seems so inviting to the outside world. that house is wh ere all our loved once communicate with us. mom and dad, peach, tita pining, now, ilo. i am glad you have such a place where they can tell us what they want and we can talk to them,. i wish she would visit me too. everytime i look at her picture which is on top of my piano in the living room, i can't believe she is really gone. but i always pray for her. oo nga, she died before her time because she was suffering too much. i can understand that. ako nga, just this dry cough, i feel panic already. i have lost weight but am trying to regain my appetite once more. i feel much better this morning when i woke up and i was able to get a good night sleep (which became a luxury for me during the past weeks.) ang dami kong gamot. but i realy feel better today. you know alex, i prayed so hard to my favorite saint last night to make me feel better and he did. prayers do wonders, totoo yan! They say this pandemic could still last for 4 - 5 years..... omg ! bakit kaya nangyari ito!!! never in my wildest dreams something like this would happen to us. storms, tsunamis, earthquakes, floods..... okay lang because there is an end to that..... natatapos rin, but this , everyone is guessing when it will end. no one knows the answer. . i guess kailangan pa more research for a more appropriate antidote for this virus. yung bang just one time like the polio and small pox vaccines. there are still a lot of people here who have to be vaccinated. not enough vaccines for the population. good thing boy was able to get a good one .
i am sure ilo will still communicate with you and marissa. tell her how i love and miss her so and she is always in my prayers . i pray for each member of our family, alex. stay well and fit, both of you. love you both very much. :

Hello, Lolo Alex!

Apologies for the delayed response, I was not able to check my email yesterday. Lola right now is stable. Her vital signs and BP are both stable but she feels discomfort in her sleeping position which results in a misalignment on the IVs injected to her arm. According to the results of her last CT scan, it showed a blockage po in her brain (please see attached file of the screenshot po of the CT scan report).

Most likely po by tomorrow, she'll be having another CT scan to check if the blockage is still there. Lola can walk but she needs support. She also uses her right arm to adjust her sleeping position din po!

God bless po, Lolo Alex and the family appreciates the support and generosity po!

Best wishes,

Dear Jig,

Very important and without the usual niceties. This is what I advised Momoy....

Your Lola was late for tPA treatment. Look this up in your computer, but however is she being treated with IV tPA. If not because of very late treatment and not possible to dissolve the blood clot then look at the one below:

Endovascular Treatment and Clot-Removing Devices

Clot-Removing Device
The dark streak in the mesh tube is a blood clot extracted with a clot-removing device during endovascular treatment. The procedure is used to restore blood flow to the brain when stroke patients arrive at the hospital too late for effective use of IV tPA or if IV tPA is not appropriate for them.

If patients arrive at the hospital too late for effective use of IV tPA or if IV tPA is not appropriate for them, physicians may use endovascular surgery procedures or neuro-interventional techniques to remove the clot. Endovascular procedures are those performed from inside the blood vessel.
They involve navigating a small catheter (a hollow plastic tube) through the blood vessels to the location of the blockage. After the catheter is positioned within the blocked artery, tPA can be injected to dissolve the clot. Alternatively, a device can be used to suction the clot (aspiration) or trap the clot and remove it (retrieval). Our involvement in clinical trials at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin means we bring the latest clot-busting technology and practices to stroke patients.....tell this to your aunties or doctors involved study up in your computer. The doctors may not listen to Momoy, but an older person can tell the doctor more explicitly.

Also buy some grape seed extract for Lorna and for everybody. We are alright with our Pfizer booster vax (3 shots). If you can have a priest give an extreme unction, if not try to squeeze her hand and ask her to be sorry for her sins, repeat it so many times. We will pray for her. Tell momoy that we will fix the MTCN. All the best, love tita Marissa and tito Alex

Hi Alex and Marissa.

Finally i was able to get hold of winch's pc. as u have noticed i've not sent any e-mail messages t9o anyone for the last 2 weeks. my computer shpo is being "renovated". I have decided to get a partner (she'll handl the financial side) and I will just provice the space. We have added 4 more brand new computers to my already 6 pcs and perhaps, we'll have a 5 in l xerox copyier, printer, scanner, fax machine, etc.... In the meantime, ang gulo ng bahay because and i doubt if the workers can finish this on time for christmas. (sabi ko nga, habol namin christmas since may pera ang mga kids). All pc will have webcams, and it will be computerized, the billing system and the hours played by each player....that way, walang dayaan. i hope this venture becomes successful....hati kami ng partner ko (my next door neighbor).

so, how do u plan to spend the holidays? kayo lang dalawa? the whole family will be here in pilar (that added more gulo to my aleady magulong house) but that's okay....masaya naman (magastos din).

happy holidays to both of you. i guess, the only thing i can wish for both of u is a long, long, long healthy life...meron na kayong lahat so u don't need to become richer, right? (sa akin mo dapat i wish yun, ha ha).

hoping to see both of u here come 2007 (so u can bring your "expensive pasalubon" to me, right again?)

love, love, love to both of u....i surelyl miss you, guys!

LAWRENCE ALBERT  BLANCO

Dear Tito Alex and Tita Marissa,

It was our first halloween celebration without Mommy Lorna and we tried our best to remain cheerful since it is also our way of celebrating Daddy Peach’s birthday every year (Oct 27).

Every year my mom would look forward to this occasion since we would carefully plan our costumes a d the menu (which would include my mom’s favorites such as sans rival cake and lechon.

This year we decided to adopt the Squid Game theme for our costumes and have a Korean menu.

Here are some pictures.
We hope you and tita are enjoying the holiday and are safe and sound.

Love,
Jig

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, from my family to yours. Enclosed a prose in one of my blogs, some of you have seen this but I think it is appropriate to publish again. It is the journey we have made in life to where we are today, and as we pass the final milestones, reflect on the blessings that we have received from the Almighty.

The journey's our goal, our path is the point....
There are two days in every week we should never worry about,
two days that should be kept free from fear and apprehension.
One is yesterday, with its mistakes and cares,
its aches and pains, its faults and blunders.

Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control.
All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday.
We cannot undo a single act we performed,
nor erase a single word we've said. Yesterday is gone.

The other day we should not worry about is tomorrow,
with its impossible adversaries,its burden,
its hopeful promise and unknown performance.
Tomorrow is beyond our control.

Tomorrow's sun will rise either in splendor or
behind a mask of clouds ...but it will rise ... and until it does.
We have no stake in tomorrow, for it is as yet unborn.
This leaves only one day: TODAY!
Anyone can fight the battles of just one day.

It is only when we add the burdens of yesterday and tomorrow that we break down.
It is not the experience of today that drives people mad.
It is the remorse of bitterness for something that happened yesterday,
and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.
Make TODAY the best day it can be, and live one day at a time!
